The other day, one of the art-groups I participate in here at FAA had a contest and invited us each to enter an image. I hadn't ever entered an art contest before, and decided to submit a digital collage that I'd done recently called A Welcoming Softness, an image you can see for yourself here on this site:). I then forgot all about it until my niece emailed me and told me that my image was in first place! She and her family immediately got to work campaigning for me, and suddenly there were friends all over the globe clicking on image # 452 with their VOTE! I was amazed!

It turns out that we people really enjoy the game of getting together as a tribe and supporting a member in a special way. I felt unbelievably loved and cared for, and warm all over with everyone's support.

The circle grew and grew and people I'd never met were casting their votes my way! It was a close race, and in the end, my image was one of the 3 top contenders, winning lots of promotion on places like twitter and facebook. But for me, the best part of the experience was the feeling of being enveloped by this wonderful loving tribe of helpers.

This multimedia painting (watercolor, colored pencil and mica paint) is all about that glorious feeling of being helped and helping. Of supporting and being supported. Of loving and being loved. The joy. The wonder.

Things sure are better all the way around with a little help from our friends!
