Artist's Description

This one was fun!

I have been reading about cold wax medium

and the beauty that can be expressed

by mixing the wax with oil paints in layers.

Awhile back, I bought a little container and tried

it out, but my extra-sensitive body reacted to something

in the ingredients, so I decided to try making my own!

I've always enjoyed making salves and creams and so got

out my double boiler and set to work melting beeswax and

walnut oil.

Once I had a wax-mixture that was soft but not runny, I mixed

it in with my paints and here is the result.

It has a wonderful translucent sheen that you can polish with

a cloth. I'll be trying this out again. Very fun!

When my dear friend and partner Fred encouraged me to take up art, I was touched by an excitement that was like a thousand smiles singing inside me! I've always been an adventurous one,,, artistic, musical, and a great lover of spontaneous play. For much of my life, I've made my living as a luthier, specializing in unusual, made-up violin family instruments, as well as a whole host of flutes, harps, marimbas, tile-a-phones, etc. etc. But until last year, I'd never spent much time with a paintbrush, or let myself be...
